Fred & Sharon Wright
Fred and Sharon Wright both met the Lord at the age of 19 while attending different universities in separate locations. Then they were both separately led to England to attend the Capernwray Bible School near Carnforth, England and there they met each other for the first time in 1962. God used this Bible course, which lasted for six months, to ground them each in their faith and prepare them for their life together as man and wife. God led them together at the end of the Bible School and, at the last minute, gave them a joint assignment.
They were asked to accompany and help Christian Bastke, one of their teachers at the Bible School, in an evangelistic youth conference in West Berlin, Germany. This was their beginning to their life-long focus of serving God together. During the two years that it took to complete their university degrees, Fred served Youth for Christ in the Los Angeles area, being responsible for 15 of their evangelistic clubs, which were meeting on high school campuses in the San Fernando Valley. In 1965, after receiving their BA’s at what is now Azusa Pacific University, they moved to Denver, Colorado. There, Fred completed his Masters of Divinity Degree at Denver Seminary in 1968. During this time they worked with youth in a local church. In 1968, after Fred’s graduation from seminary, they took on the position of Associate Pastor in Seaside, California, for 18 months.
Then, in April of 1970, they left for the country of Sweden to work in missions there for eleven years. During their years in Sweden, the heyday of the Jesus People Movement of the 1970’s broke out. It was an exciting decade with over 4,000,000 young people coming to the Lord out of the hippy culture worldwide. To accommodate the needs of this era, Fred and Sharon founded the Capernwray Bible School and Conference Center in Holsby Brunn in the southern part of Sweden. Well over 1,000 students came through the school during their tenure there. Many of these students continue serving Christ’s Body in leadership on mission fields or in the pastorate in many different countries around the world. Upon returning from Sweden in 1981, they served in three different churches, two of which they planted, the second growing to well over five hundred people.
In 1996 God led them to Toronto, Ontario, Canada where they helped plant and pastor the network of churches known as Partners in Harvest, which was born out of the Toronto Blessing move of God beginning in January of 1994. There are now well over 13,000 churches in this network worldwide, thanks in part to the ever-expanding work of Heidi and Rolland Baker’s ministry, IRIS, in Mozambique. The list of Fred and Sharon’s mentors and fathers in the faith include Jack Hamilton and Bob Crane of Youth For Christ, Ray Steadman of Peninsula Bible Church near Palo Alto, California, Vernon Grounds, President of Denver Seminary, Major Ian Thomas of Capernwray Missionary Fellowship, Roger Forster of Ichthus Christian Fellowship of the house church movement in England, John Wimber of the Vineyard movement, John Arnott of Catch The Fire movement, Bill Johnson of Bethel Church, Redding, California, and Jack Winter, James Jordan and Jack Frost of the Father Heart movement.
They both feel so thankful to have been exposed to such a diverse group of leaders in the Body of Christ and to glean from such a wide spectrum of Bible teaching. Fred and Sharon have the privilege of carrying several important messages to the Body of Christ around the world. Fred has travelled well over 1,000,000 miles already, speaking on the Infilling and Indwelling Life of Christ, on Father God’s Love for His children, on the Importance of Living in the Fullness of the Holy Spirit, and on the Preparation for the Return of Jesus Christ for His Bride. Fred and Sharon are published authors of the highly-regarded book, The World’s Greatest Revivals.
They also serve on the leadership team of River Community Church, Abbotsford, British Columbia between ministry trips and trips back to Ontario, Canada where they love to visit their three precious grandchildren, wonderful gifts from their daughter, Hanna Lafferty and her husband, Mark Lafferty. Fred and Sharon also have an amazing entrepreneurial son, Nathan Wright, who is growing his own business in Japan. His wife, Megumi works for a Japanese pharmaceutical company a train ride away from their home.
