Michael Whate is a retired business executive, author, speaker, prayer minister and Christian counselor.
The youngest of four children, Michael was born and raised in London, England. His mother was Irish Catholic and his father from the Church of England. Michael immigrated to Canada in 1965, settling in Sarnia Ontario where he enjoyed a successful business career in the Rubber and Petrochemicals industry. It was here that he attended a Catholic Cursillo weekend and encountered Christ in a very personal way and, with his wife Marion, became active in local Catholic and interdenominational spiritual retreats.
In 1985 Michael and his family to Mississauga, where he became VP & General Manager of Domtar Chemicals. In this capacity he also became President of a Canadian-German joint venture company. On leaving Domtar, Michael established his own management consulting practice, providing small and medium sized businesses with a wide range of services in strategic planning, sales & marketing, quality and human resource management.
In the 1990’s Michael was led into the Charismatic movement where he experienced a supernatural baptism in the Holy Spirit. Michael now has more than 15 years of practical experience in the healing ministry and has led workshops on healing prayer at church conferences and in small groups. He is involved in prayer ministry & counseling at his church, and volunteers at a local correctional institution where, as part of a team, he conducts Friday night prayer meetings. Michael also counsels inmates on a one-on-one basis, and teaches weekly Bible stories at a Christian drop-in center in Mississauga. Rise Up is Michael’s first book.
Michael and his wife Marion have three adult sons and seven grandchildren. Besides enjoying family time together, he takes great pleasure in photography, warm sunny beaches and jazz music.
